Style Shoot: Love from Aix-en-Provence

A styled shoot to share with you! Inspired by my love of the South, France, bold color, tradition and subtle lux. I also wanted to mix southern casual with a European influenced color palette and after turning it over and over in my head this is the story that emerged from my daydreams, collaborations with the most amazing photographer, my obsession with certain pinning website, and the desire to put on a fantastic affair.

And now a fairy tale! I created a back story that I shared with the models before the shoot and I figured why not share the same story with the public.

This is the completely fictional “modern-day” love story of Theola & Jason.

Imagine a small sunny plaza in a little town in coastal southern Spain. There are street vendors hawking goods and tourists snapping photos. Midst the throng of tourists and locals, students just released from afternoon studies gather and stroll the plaza. Bags slung over careless shoulders and a garbled mixture of English, Spanish, and French follow these students through the cobbled streets.

From the opposite direction comes a another group of students. As the groups merge, two strangers both looking in different directions run directly into each other. Theola looks up from her book and her barbed exclamation dies in her throat. Jason whips his head around, reflexively protecting his camera, ready to shout and he too falls silent. The world falls away and there they stand staring raptly into each other’s eyes. Love at first sight.

Let’s fast forward through flamenco dancing and Spanish guitar music during romantic dinners at cafes next to the beach. Before, after and during school they are inseparable. A month into this whirlwind affair they decide to take a short weekend trip to France. Both of their summer study programs are slowing down and they are allowed more freedom to travel. They pick randomly on a map and land in Aix-en-Provence. On their travels they stay in a converted castle and where they exchange the first I love you’s.

The rest of the summer is spent in a magical blur of laughter and love. The study aboard program ends for both of them and instead of going straight home the couple decide to spend one last night in Paris. They will split ways at the airport with one going to the west coast and the other back to the southeast. Jason pops the question that night.

The next morning Jason surprises Theola with a lover’s lock and the last thing they do together in Paris is kiss on the Pont de l’Archevêché right before they catch a cab to the airport. Tearful farewells and promises of late night Skype sessions are the only thing to console them on the journey home to their respective colleges. Home to tell everyone they love they are getting married.

Theses photographs are their wedding day. A tiny ceremony followed by a tiny wedding brunch with only family and a few friends in attendance. Loved
